The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested suspected drug barons in separate operations across the state, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and crime reduction.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that on October 12th, 2025, operatives from the Ovian Aladja Police Division responded swiftly to a distress call from a man whose home had been invaded by armed men in the early hours of the morning. The attackers reportedly robbed the family and kidnapped the man’s wife during the assault.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Friday Ekundayo, immediately mobilised his team and launched a pursuit. Acting on intelligence, the officers tracked the kidnappers to a forest near Iyara community. Their relentless efforts forced the suspects to abandon the victim, who was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family. A manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Crack Squad, Delta State Command, Asaba, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a hideout at Effurun GRA around 5:00 a.m. the same day. The team arrested two suspects namely Igwe Samson (33) and Abalum Sunday (39), who were in possession of a stolen Sienna vehicle and a significant quantity of illicit drugs.
Recovered items include 450 bottles of CSP Codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol 100mg, 300 sachets of Swinol, 100 sachets of Tramadol 500mg, 50 sachets of Rohypnol and a large bag of weed suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been operating for about two years, sourcing drugs from Onitsha and transporting them mostly at night to evade detection. Efforts are underway to apprehend their suppliers and other accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their swift and professional response. He further urged youths to desist from drug abuse and criminal acts, stressing that drug misuse remains a major driver of violent crime.
CP Abaniwonda also cautioned that substance abuse poses grave risks to the health and well-being of young people and called on communities to join hands with the police in combating the menace.
