The Delta State Police Command has denied allegations made by self-acclaimed activist Israel Joe that a suspect died in police custody at Ekpan Police Station. The command describes the claim as false, misleading, and unfounded, stating that no suspect died in custody in Ekpan or any part of the state.

According to the police, a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts was carried out on March 25 and 26, 2026, resulting in the arrest of over 270 suspects, including suspected drug traffickers and wanted cultists. The police also recovered large quantities of illicit drugs during the operation. All suspects arrested were screened, and those not found wanting were released, while others remain in custody in good condition.

The command views the spread of misinformation as reckless and capable of undermining confidence in law enforcement. The Commissioner of Police warns that individuals found publishing or circulating false information against the police will be investigated, arrested, and prosecuted.
