In a bid to strengthen civil-military relations and support local communities, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, under the leadership of Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, conducted a Medical Rhapsody in the Majidun community, Ikorodu West Local Government Area, Lagos State, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The initiative, which provided free blood sugar tests, medications, and consultations, was carried out as part of the Navy’s commitment to community welfare and aligns with the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, to offer free medical outreach programs across the country’s eight theatres of operations.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations (CDCMR), Rear Admiral OA Bankole, emphasized the importance of such outreach programs in fostering trust between the military and local communities. He highlighted that the primary focus was to assist vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children, by providing essential healthcare services at no cost.
Rear Admiral Bankole also encouraged the Majidun community to take full advantage of the free medical services and urged residents to support security efforts by reporting any suspicious activities that could pose a threat to peace and security.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West, Honourable Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of NNS BEECROFT in providing much-needed healthcare services to residents. He reassured the Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations of the community’s continued support and collaboration in ensuring security and safety in the region.
The Medical Rhapsody is one of several initiatives by the Nigerian Navy aimed at bridging the gap in healthcare access for underserved communities. By offering these free medical services, NNS BEECROFT not only strengthens relationships with the people but also reinforces its commitment to national development and humanitarian assistance.
Residents of Majidun lauded the outreach, describing it as a timely intervention that provided relief for many who struggle with healthcare access. The event served as a reminder of the military’s role beyond defense—one that includes community service and social responsibility.
