The 81 Division Nigerian Army witnessed a moment of honour and inspiration as newly promoted senior officers were decorated with their new ranks at the Division Officers’ Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, held on 21st October 2025, was marked by heartfelt speeches and a resounding call to service, as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, charged the officers to prioritize the welfare of their troops and mentor their subordinates with dedication and empathy.
In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Major General Mijinyawa described the promotion from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel as both a divine recognition and a testament to discipline, loyalty and hard work. He congratulated the officers for their professional excellence and sacrifice in service to the nation, urging them to remain humble and steadfast as they assume higher leadership responsibilities.
The GOC emphasized that effective command transcends authority, noting that true leadership is reflected in the welfare and growth of those you lead. He encouraged the newly promoted Colonels to pay close attention to the well-being of their troops and their families, highlighting mentorship as an indispensable part of military leadership.
Those decorated include Colonel N.I. Ota, Commanding Officer 1040 Division Workshop; Colonel K.E. Amedu, Acting Commander 81 Military Intelligence Brigade; and Colonel I.I. Peters, Acting Chief of Staff, 55 Signals Brigade.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Colonel N.I. Ota expressed gratitude to God, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede and the GOC for their confidence, mentorship and guidance. He reaffirmed the officers’ collective commitment to uphold the Nigerian Army’s values of integrity, professionalism and selfless service, while acknowledging the support of families and colleagues who stood by them through the journey.
The event was graced by senior military officers including Brigadier General U.D. Igbokwe, Brigadier General M.A. Oloyede, Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola, Brigadier General M.M. Mato and Brigadier General G.U. Bukar, alongside other commanders, staff officers and family members. It concluded with a symbolic group photograph capturing the spirit of achievement, unity and renewed commitment to national service.
