As part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s 69th anniversary, the Eastern Naval Command organized a free medical outreach on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Millennium Park in Calabar.
The outreach, dubbed the Medical Rhapsody, was held under the leadership of the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral S.A. Akinwande. It aimed to provide essential healthcare services to residents of the host community, reinforcing the Navy’s commitment to humanitarian service and civil-military relations.
The Chief Staff Officer of the Command, Rear Admiral D.M. Ndanusa, who represented the Flag Officer Commanding, officially flagged off the event. He was joined by other top naval officers, including the Fleet Commander of the Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral K.O. Oguntuga, principal staff officers, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, and other senior officers and personnel of the Command.
Residents who turned out in large numbers benefitted from free health checks including blood pressure and sugar level monitoring, malaria and hepatitis B and C screening, as well as medical consultations. Attendees also received free medications, reading glasses, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
The initiative was warmly received by the community, with many beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the Navy’s continued efforts to support public health and welfare.
According to the Command, the Medical Rhapsody is designed not only to provide healthcare access but also to strengthen the bond between the Nigerian Navy and the communities it serves, reflecting the Navy’s enduring commitment to nation building and public service.
