EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND WELCOMES NEW FLAG OFFICER AS LEADERSHIP TRANSITIONS IN CALABAR

The Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy witnessed a seamless transition of leadership on Tuesday, November 4th 2025, as Rear Admiral Chiedozie Donald Okehie formally assumed office as the 43rd Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), succeeding Rear Admiral Kennedy Chukwuemeka Ezete.

The handover ceremony, held at the Command Headquarters in Calabar, was marked by an air of pride and reflection as officers, men and invited guests gathered to honor a distinguished era of service and welcome a new chapter in the Command’s history.

In his valedictory address, Rear Admiral Ezete expressed deep gratitude to God and to the officers and men who supported him throughout his tenure. He described his service as both fulfilling and challenging, noting that the Command’s achievements were made possible through teamwork, discipline and commitment to national duty.

Rear Admiral Okehie, in his maiden address, commended his predecessor for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to maritime security. He pledged to build upon the existing foundation while steering the Command toward greater efficiency and operational excellence.

Highlighting his vision for the Eastern Naval Command, the new FOC outlined four guiding pillars that will define his leadership which are Professionalism, Operational Readiness, Welfare of Personnel and Synergy and Collaboration.

He emphasized the Command’s pivotal role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests, ensuring stability in the Gulf of Guinea and contributing to the nation’s economic prosperity through secure sea lanes.

The ceremony featured the formal signing of handover notes and the symbolic exchange of the Command Flag; an enduring tradition that signifies authority, continuity and commitment to service.

The event concluded with a group photograph capturing the spirit of camaraderie and transition.
