Gary Neville, a former captain of Manchester United, has said that the club’s acquisition of Rafael da Silva basically put an end to his mental career at Old Trafford.
Neville has played in 602 games for Man United over the course of almost twenty years, earning him the title of club legend.
By 2008, when legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson signed Rafael, his spot in Man United’s starting lineup was anything from certain.
Rafael was a young, vibrant, and vivacious Brazilian full-back, and Neville could instantly see the end of his Man United career in front of him.

He’s a nice kid and a brilliant athlete, and I was happy for him. Of course, I wanted to be on the squad and captain, but I wasn’t.
Then Rafael arrived at practise, he continued. Rafael may have psychologically put an end to my career since I used to watch him in practise close up on players and make tackles before standing up and returning to the field while I was unable to move my legs forward. I believed, “I see it, I grasp it.”
