As a governor of a state like Lagos state, every advice and counsel, no matter how you perceive them, should never be taken for granted.
Lagos is a large state that can’t be monitored by the eyes of the governor only, even his aides can’t do the job alone. That’s why people like Primate Ayodele offer even higher insight and counsel to put the state in a good light ,but it’s sad that Governor Sanwoolu sometimes fails to listen.
While it is understandable that politicians only want to listen to what their political godfathers, political appointees or beneficiary wants to say, it is also important to note that beyond politics lies spirituality. As a matter of fact, the first set of rulers, who can now be referred to as politicians of today, were appointed by God’s prophet.
We read in the holy bible of how Samuel anointed David to become the King of Israel, we read how Samuel warned King Saul which he disobeyed, ultimately leading to the end of the kingdom, we read how prophets were first consulted by kings before embarking on battles; this shows the importance of God’s prophet in the society.
Primate Ayodele has offered his prophetic insight to the Lagos state governor countless times and when some of the things he warned about happens, it make people wonder if the governor is intentionally ignoring these warnings or the governor doesn’t just know what to do.
The recent fire incidents in Lagos that happened more frequently that it used to have been spoken about severally by Primate Ayodele and one would have expected that the government would have taken strong measures to tackle it or prevent it but absolutely nothing was done.
His most recent warnings about fire incident in Lagos was shared during a live service at his church headquarters and he specifically mentioned that Lagos must be watchful against fire outbreak in some markets on the Lagos Island.
These were his words:
“Let’s put Idumota, Lagos Island in prayers so that we are not going to see fire outbreak in the markets. In Lagos, Apogbon market, all these markets, let them church, let’s also watch so that houses will not collapse in that axis”.

Within one week, I think two things Primate Ayodele warned about ; Fire outbreak and building collapses have happened along that axis.
On Tuesday, there was a heavy fire at Afriland Towers, located on broadstreet, Lagos Island. The fire incident affected several companies including UBA, FIRS, and United Capital. So far, about ten people have been confirmed to have died as a result of the fire incident.
On the same day, Mandillas Market on the Lagos Island was engulfed by fire, destroying several properties worth millions of naira.
Few days before that, there was a building collapse in Ebutte-Meta, killing some workers in Lagos state.
These are calamities that are too much to bear because it affects the livelihood of humans and even takes the lives of individuals, these are things that could have been avoided if the governor had listened to the prophet of God.
The questions now is that, when will Governor Babajide Sanwoolu listen to Primate Ayodele? Is it until this continues to happen every week or when people in government start becoming victims of these unfortunate incidents.
This is a wakeup call to the governor to please listen up on time and avert every danger the state may experience in future.
