A major road accident involving six vehicles was recorded along the Epe–Ajah corridor on Thursday afternoon, but tragedy was averted thanks to the swift intervention of operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command.
In a statement released by the Sector Public Education Officer, RC Oluwadamilola, on behalf of the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, the FRSC confirmed that the crash occurred around Alaro City at about 2:46 p.m. The collision was triggered by a broken-down truck that obstructed the bridge, leading to a multiple-vehicle pileup. A total of 15 people;13 men and two women, were involved in the crash. While no lives were lost, one female victim sustained injuries and was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
FRSC operatives from Corridor Command 13 and Epe Unit Command, working alongside the Nigeria Police, arrived promptly at the scene to secure the area, administer first aid and ease the resulting traffic gridlock to prevent further crashes. Tow trucks were also dispatched to remove the broken-down truck and clear the obstruction.
Sector Commander Hamzat commended the rapid response of the patrol team led by SRC Ande Apollo and used the opportunity to caution motorists against speeding and reckless driving. He stressed that drivers should remain patient whenever they encounter breakdowns or road obstructions.
He also reminded fleet operators and truck owners to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance before sending trucks onto highways, warning that broken-down trucks often become a danger to other motorists.
The FRSC reassured the public of its continuous presence on highways across Lagos, promising sustained efforts to ensure road safety, free traffic flow and timely rescue operations in emergencies.
