Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has been named as the Maritime Person of the Year 2024.

He courageously sustained the drive to provide good governance to the people of Rivers State and reposition the state for excellence.

He equitably distributed infrastructure and road projects across the state.

He dismantled the power Mafia in the state that held the state to ransom.

The award is in recognition of a person who has demonstrated courage in the face of adversity in governance and has helped shape the events of the year.

The award selection was decided by the editors of Maritime Vision magazine.

Amongst those who were considered for the award are the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, Senator Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio and the governor of Akwa Ibom State State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD.

In the words of the former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, “the incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara has surpassed all other former governors in the state considering his performances within the first year of governance.” Odili described him as a “young, resilient, humble, irreplaceable, and greater fighter” for the welfare of Rivers people. We couldn’t agree more.

This testimony adds credibility to his achievements as the award serves as an external validation of excellence.

Gov. Fubara is a first time governor, former Accountant General of the State and a technocrat. He was born on 28 January 1975 in Opobo in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State. He’s a Knight of Saint Christopher (KSC).
