When the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project is finished, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) estimates that it would serve 1.5 million people.
Muhammad Sule, the FCT’s director of information and communication, announced this Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with the Abuja Editors Forum. He said that the government intended to address the ongoing shortage of potable water supplies in various areas of the 250 square kilometre FCC, Abuja, by starting the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project.
He stated that this large-scale project aims to serve 50 FCC districts with potable water, which will benefit roughly 1.5 million people currently reliant on potentially unsafe and unhygienic water sources.

In particular, the Phases III and IV of the City’s mass housing projects and roughly 50 estates are scheduled to receive potable water as a result of this water project. You might want to think back to a few months ago when the country was struggling with an insufficient electricity supply and some areas of the city were dark due to our electrical distribution company’s shortcomings.
“Today, the entire city of Abuja is being illuminated as FCTA. Rather than playing the blame game, we had to think creatively and immediately offer a respectable substitute. Most of you can see that the city of Abuja has been illuminated with Stand-alone Solar powered Street Lights, especially at night, he stated.

According to him, the FCT administration has improved security surveillance with the procurement of modern security gadgets and operational equipment for security agencies in the FCT.
“In the area of health care delivery, efforts are being made to resuscitate the abandoned 240Bed Utako District hospital; in addition, the Administration has introduced Automated Registration of Private Healthcare facilities to check incidences of quackery. Also, the Zuba Cottage Hospital has been rehabilitated and upgraded to the status of a General Hospital.
“While in the Education sector, the major problem the nation face is the safety of pupils and students in our public schools and the FCT Administration has taken measures to install security gadgets in all its public schools.
“The Administration has built a modern state-of-the art Library complex at the College of Education, Zuba; a City Library in Abuja. This is apart from the building of several classrooms for primary and secondary schools scattered around the Territory.
