Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has urged religious leaders in the country to teach their congregations to understand that as they embrace technology, they should not forget their creator.
The Deputy Governor made this remark on Saturday at the fourth Annual Ramadan Lecture/Iftar and Special Prayer in Memory of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, organised by Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mushin Constituency 2, Hon. Moses Oluwatoyin Fayinka held at Mushin, Lagos.
Hamzat stated that as religious leaders, they should let their members understand the influence of Artificial intelligence (AI) on humanity and how they can caution their children by letting them know that they can use AI advancement in a godly manner and be religious.
According to the Deputy Governor, “In term of Artificial Intelligence, is to challenge the Imams and of course, the Christian leaders to let them understand the influence of Artificial Intelligence in the lives of humanity. and how to preach and make people understand that we have to find a way to live with the technology and still be religious, and live our lives in a godly way”.
He added that AI has advanced tremendously and clerics should seek ways to pass the message and let the people know that human beings are not controlled by chips or machines but by the Almighty God.
Speaking on the relevance of the event, the Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of children remembering their parents even in death, as it helps to honour them and preserve the legacy they have set while living.
Earlier in his speech, the Organiser of the special prayer, Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mushin Constituency 2, Hon. Oluwatoyin Fayinka urged every Muslim faithful to coexist peacefully and extend love and affection to everyone, irrespective of their faiths.
He noted that Islam teaches all humans are created by Allah and belong to one family. Speaking further, he stated that he is being motivated to sustain the program as Ramadan period is a time to seek forgiveness, appreciate the love and goodness of God to mankind.
He described the late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat as not only a leader but also a beacon of hope and a champion of unity, adding that his unwavering commitment to serving others, irrespective of their background and beliefs, left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He added that organizing a special prayer in his memory annually is to remember his good deeds and to let God know that he delivered His message appropriately.
