Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has cautioned parents against excessive indulgence in raising their children, saying it could have negative consequences for families and society.
Speaking at the 6th Annual Ramadan Lecture and Special Prayers in Ogba, Lagos, Hamzat emphasized the need for balance between love and discipline in child upbringing. He noted that over-pampering without proper guidance contributes to behavioural challenges among young people.
The Deputy Governor stressed that responsible parenting is critical to building stable homes and a secure future, adding that the stability and progress of society depend on the strength of the family.
He called on religious leaders to reinforce the message of responsible parenting, emphasizing the need for parents to prioritize their children’s care, discipline, and moral development.
Prof. (Sheikh) Abdul-Razaq Abdul-Majeed Alaro, a Professor of Law, Shariah, University of Ilorin, noted that creating a pristine home is the bedrock of an ideal society, and parents must faithfully carry out their responsibilities.
The event was held in honour of the late Oba Olatunji Mufutau Hamzat, with the theme “Building a Pristine Home as the Foundation of an Ideal Society”.
