The Igala Community in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Sunday, 17th August 2025, hosted a grand reception in honour of His Royal Highness, Chief Dr. Mohammed Shaibu Salifu, the Onu Igala of Lagos State and Ochai Attah of the Igala Kingdom. The colourful event, which took place at the Rainbow Event Hall, Sabo Ikorodu, drew a remarkable turnout of indigenes and well-wishers.
Speaking at the occasion, Speaker after speaker thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fostering an enabling environment for Nigerians and commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for sustaining peace and harmony in the state irrespective of ethnic or religious differences. They described the gathering as a true show of love and acceptance for His Royal Highness, adding that Nigerians must continue to see themselves as one people united in peace.
They emphasized that the visit of the Onu Igala to Ikorodu was deeply impactful for the Igala community. According to them, it not only strengthened the bonds of custom and tradition but also encouraged the people to be more peaceful and responsible residents of Lagos.
In the same vein, Igala indigenes resident in Ikorodu described the visit of His Royal Highness as profound and symbolic. They explained that the impressive turnout underscored the unity and love within the Igala community, adding that the reception served as a platform for peace, progress and harmony in Ikorodu.
They also added that despite living in Lagos, the occasion helped them foster ties, preserve their rich heritage and pass the culture as a lasting legacy to future generations.
The event was marked by warmth, cultural pride and a renewed commitment by the Igala community in Lagos to strengthen unity, uphold tradition and contribute to peace and development in their host state.
