The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended police officers in Kwara State for cracking a forest bandit network, arresting 32 suspects linked to kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes.
The arrests were made during joint operations by the Kwara State Police Command and the Intelligence Response Team, targeting criminal networks in forest corridors and rural communities. Two foreign nationals from Niger Republic were among those arrested, suspected of collaborating with local bandit groups.
Police recovered five walkie-talkie devices, 38 rounds of live ammunition, four AK-47 rifles, and a camouflage hydration backpack. Further investigations led to the arrest of a suspect supplying communication devices to bandits.
IGP Disu noted that the arrests resulted from coordinated operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks. CP Adekimi Ojo assured that suspects will be prosecuted and efforts continue to track down other gang members.
