The Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the persistent traffic disruptions around Agric Bus Stop, one of the busiest transport corridors in Ikorodu.
In a statement released by the Media Office of the Chairman, the council acknowledged the concerns raised in a recent online publication and assured residents and commuters that practical steps are already being taken to restore order and ensure free vehicular movement in the area.
The statement emphasized that long before the recent report, the administration had identified the traffic challenges at Agric as a priority and incorporated it into its development agenda. A comprehensive and lasting solution, the council explained has been designed and is already in the process of being implemented.
The council further noted that while the situation demands urgent intervention, it is equally mindful of the socioeconomic realities of traders whose daily earnings depend on roadside commerce. For this reason, the administration is adopting a phased approach to relocation, designed to minimize hardship while ensuring long-term order.
A major obstacle to immediate enforcement, the council explained has been the delayed completion of the Agric-Isawo road. Until the contractors complete the project and grant unhindered access to adjoining stalls at Oliwo-Odikan, relocation of traders cannot be fully enforced.
The statement added that the Chairman has already issued an eight-day ultimatum to the road construction company to make space available for both marketers and transporters, given that the project is over 85 percent complete.
It further stressed that once the project is handed over, all non-compliant traders will be treated as a “common enemy,” as the LCDA remains firmly opposed to street hawking and the obstruction of major roads with wares.
The council reassured residents that its ultimate goal is to keep Ikorodu West safe, orderly and conducive for living, working and business adding that the administration will see its plans through to full implementation.
