Ikorodu West LCDA , Lagos State, joined the global celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with a strong message of empowerment and local action.
In a statement released by the Media Unit, Office of the Executive Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to championing the rights and leadership of girls, aligning with this year’s global theme :The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.
Far from a symbolic commemoration, the observance in Ikorodu West carried the weight of legislative progress. The Council has in recent months enacted transformative bye-laws aimed at strengthening the protection of girls against abuse and gender-based violence. These laws also introduce structured support systems to promote education, leadership and wellbeing among young girls in the community.
