The ancient traditions of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom came alive on Saturday, September 6th 2025, as a Baale, Balogun-Onikoyi and Iyalode were formally capped for Igbo-Ologun Community, Amuwo-Odofin Local govt Area of Lagos State, in a ceremony that blended age-old customs with modern-day grandeur.
The event which held amidst pomp, pageantry and a throng of dignitaries from within and outside the community was described as a landmark moment in the cultural history of the kingdom.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Moroof Atanda Oyekunle Amodu Tijani Oluwa( Amore III), spoke on the capping of the Balogun, Iyalode and Baale.
He said they were conferred with titles as overseers for his domain. He said he was grateful that in his lifetime, he gave these titles to those deserving of them. He gave a brief history of his domains and how it has been in his family’s custody since colonial times.
Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Alhaji Tajudeen Olatubosun Sule Oluwa, Personal Assistant to His Royal Majesty Oba Moroof Atanda Oyekunle Amodu Tijani Oluwa (Amore III), the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, noted that the ceremony represents more than tradition.
Alhaji Sule Oluwa stated that the capping of Baale, Balogun and Iyalode of Igbologun Kingdom by HRM Oba Tijani Oluwa ( Amore III) holds great significance as it showcases the rich heritage of passing the baton to custodian keepers in the kingdom. He further said that it is a testament to the continuity of a proud heritage and the uniqueness of these gatekeepers in both modern and traditional society.
Speaking with the crown prince, Prince Olaseni Oluwa. He was enthralled with the ceremony and stated that their family was the rightful custodian of their domains and all imposters should be rejected.
The newly capped Balogun, Iyalode and Baale thanked the Oba for his conferment of their titles and also promised to uphold their roles as the custodians of the titles.
Traditional rulers from far and neighboring communities converged to witness the historic rites, underscoring the enduring role of cultural institutions in maintaining identity, unity and continuity.
With music, color and cultural displays filling the air, the day reaffirmed the sacred duty of leadership, stewardship and service tied to the chieftaincy titles, marking it as a memorable occasion in the annals of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom.
