In a major security breakthrough, Nigerian troops have dealt a significant blow to illegal arms trafficking in Taraba State.

A joint team comprising the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected high-profile gun runner in Wukari Local Government Area.

According to military sources, the operation was carried out around the Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari, where 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido, was apprehended.

Security operatives recovered a total of 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, over ₦842,000 in cash, two mobile phones, a motorcycle, two silver rings and an ATM card all believed to be linked to illicit arms trade.

Military officials say the suspect is already cooperating with investigators and has begun providing key intelligence to help dismantle wider criminal networks.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops’ professionalism and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to partnering with other security agencies to rid Taraba and surrounding areas of criminal elements.

He urged the public to continue supporting ongoing efforts by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information that could strengthen national security.
