Waziri Yakubu Gobir, the Young Progressives Party’s (YPP) candidate for governor in Kwara State, has slammed the APC-run state administration for running up enormous debts since 2019 to carry out white elephant projects in the state.
Gobir stated, “I don’t have any concerns with borrowing, but it should be for value and wealth development for the people,” in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin.

“Huge amounts have been taken to carry out white elephant projects like the esoteric Tanke overhead bridge in Ilorin,” he claimed.
The party’s gubernatorial candidate commented on the upcoming general elections, saying, “Our chances are in God’s hands; this time, the elections won’t be about large political parties, but rather, about people and personalities who can offer the benefits of democracy.
He continued, “We made mistakes in the most recent elections in 2019; now is the time to make up for those errors by electing reliable leaders.
Regarding state-specific security issues, he said that while the problem still affects the entire country, he believed the state governor, who is in charge of security, should be free to use the security architecture at his disposal for the safety of the populace.
Gobir named poverty and unemployment as the state’s two main problems facing its citizens.

He claimed that if elected in 2023, a focus will be made on developing rural areas where agricultural activities are hampered by a lack of adequate infrastructures, such as clean water, electricity, and roads.
Gobir added that in order to strengthen the state’s economy and lower the rate of poverty among the populace, p would also be provided to Small and Medium Scale Businesses in the region.
