The deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, representing the governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has joined in the global celebration and appreciation of teachers. Speaking at the event to mark the world Teachers day held at Nigerian Union Of Teachers Pavilion in Lagos, themed, “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want; The Global Imperative to Reverse Teacher Shortage,” he spoke on the need to match the quality of teachers with emerging trend of knowledge particularly in a world driven by technology and innovation.
Emphasizing on education, as the cornerstone of any thriving society and the bedrock upon which nations build their future.
He said that the success of any educational system rests heavily on the shoulders of its teachers. Teachers as the backbone of education, guide students on their journey of knowledge and growth.
They ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and instill a love for learning. With their unwavering dedication, they create a mosaic of stories and lead students toward progress. They are the unsung heroes, the torchbearers of knowledge, and the architects of a brighter tomorrow.
As a beacon of educational pursuits Lagos State has recognized the need for quality teachers and hoping to keep up to global standards, comprehensive training programs under the Eko Excel empowerment program from which a total number of 14,000 public school teachers benefitted, has provided access to cutting-edge resources, and established support networks to ensure that teachers are equipped to inspire and empower students.
Furthermore, he said that the state has taken substantial steps to recognize the invaluable contributions of our educators knowing fully that a motivated and fulfilled teacher is the cornerstone of a thriving educational system.
He enjoined the collaboration of governments, communities, parents, and every stakeholder interested in the future of the children, to partner to make these aspirations not lofty, but realistic.
He concluded by reassuring Lagosians that the state is resolutely committed to attracting the brightest minds and the most compassionate hearts to the noble profession and that through continuous recruitment of qualified teachers, the Japa syndrome is being discouraged to retain quality teacher services.
He also expressed the deepest gratitude to every teacher present and to those who could not be there on their tireless efforts, unwavering dedication, and boundless passion which he said did not go unnoticed.
