Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called on Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to embrace the teachings of Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of fair treatment and non-discrimination.
Speaking at the 7th Annual Ramadan Lecture and Special Prayers in Mushin, Lagos, Hamzat stressed that humanity is one body and that individuals should act with kindness, fairness, and respect towards one another.
He noted that worship should be reflected in how people treat others, and that ethnicity or social background should not be a basis for division, but rather a foundation for unity and peaceful coexistence.
The Deputy Governor also emphasized that leadership in Nigeria requires knowledge, courage, and bold decision-making to drive sustainable growth and development. He cited improvements in food prices, the oil sector, and the broader economy as positive results of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms.
Imam Abdul-Ganiu Yusuf, in his lecture, encouraged Muslims to make a meaningful impact wherever they are, emphasizing that influence is not measured by title, but by service and faithfulness to using their positions justly.
The event was held in memory of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, whose life and legacy were highlighted as an example of dedication, compassion, and purposeful leadership.
