The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory minimum Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The exercise, which took effect on February 1, 2025, requires all vehicle owners in the state to possess valid insurance coverage.
Motorists without any form of insurance have been urged to obtain the required coverage immediately, as the police warn that non-compliance will attract strict penalties. These may include fines, other legal sanctions, or both.
According to the police, the enforcement is designed to ensure compliance with insurance regulations, providing protection for vehicle owners and other road users in the event of accidents.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olanrewaju Ishola, has directed officers involved in the exercise to carry out their duties with professionalism and courtesy while maintaining firmness in enforcement. He also emphasized that no form of misconduct towards the public would be tolerated.
The police have called for cooperation from the public, stressing that adherence to the policy benefits all road users by promoting accountability and financial responsibility in the event of accidents.
