Abdulkadir Ahmed, a native of Lafia in Nasarawa state, and his companion Hassan Sabo have been detained by the local police force on suspicion of killing a three-week-old baby.
According to a statement made on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the preliminary investigation showed that on Tuesday, the primary suspect (Abdulkadir Ahmed) asked his friend (Hassan Sabo) to entice the mother of the deceased to his shop across from the Correctional Facility in Lafia under the guise of seeking reconciliation with the woman he had previously cohabited with, conceived with, and sent away.
But when she got to the shop, Ahmed brought the kid inside while Sabo talked to her outside, and then the kid wailed and stopped talking.
Part of the statement states, “Abdulkadir Ahmed came out of the business immediately, and the mother asked why the infant shouted but was informed that the youngster had fallen asleep.
“Unsatisfied, she raced into the store where she saw her child’s lifeless body as the perpetrators sped off on a motorcycle.

“The body was quickly taken to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia after the police were contacted. There, it was determined to be dead and placed in the morgue for post-mortem testing.
“CP Adesina Soyemi, the Commissioner of Police, immediately ordered an extensive manhunt for the perpetrators; the search paid off on October 13, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., when they were apprehended following a laborious inquiry.
The State Criminal Inquiry Department in Lafia is conducting the investigation, following which the suspects will be charged with a crime and prosecuted.
