The Nigerian Army has stepped up its nationwide counter-terrorism and anti-crime efforts, recording significant successes between 1st and 5th September 2025. The operations led to the neutralization of four terrorists, the arrest of 64 criminal suspects, the rescue of kidnapped victims and the recovery of arms, ammunition and logistics.
North East Front
In Borno State, troops of 117 Task Force Battalion, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force and vigilantes, engaged terrorists at Yimurmuze in Chibok LGA, killing one and recovering an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 24 rounds of ammunition. In Geidam, Yobe State, 159 Battalion neutralized another terrorist and seized an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and ammunition.
Meanwhile, in Askira Uba, Adamawa State, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion arrested eight suspected cattle rustlers, confiscating a Dane gun, cartridges, knives, bows and arrows and mobile phones. Further disruption of terrorist activities was achieved in New Marte with the discovery of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
North West Operations
The Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in coordination with ground forces, struck terrorist enclaves in Zango, Katsina State. Intercepted communications confirmed the killing of about 15 terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds. In Sokoto State, the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion apprehended two terrorist informants and logistics suppliers in Gudu LGA.
North Central Actions
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized an armed herder in Logo LGA, Benue State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. In Niger State, two kidnapped victims were freed during joint air and ground operations in Mariga LGA, where 28 rustled cows were also recovered.
Wider Nationwide Impact
Army operations extended to other regions, producing additional results:
Kaduna State: 19 suspects arrested in raids across Unguwan Dosa, Rigasa, Mando, Tudun Wada and surrounding areas.
Rivers State: 35 sacks of illegally refined petroleum products (about 1,750 litres) uncovered, with one suspect arrested despite resistance from bunkerers.
Delta State: Three drug dealers apprehended in Sapele in a joint operation with NDLEA, with seizures including cocaine and tramadol. In Oshimili South, troops arrested two suspected IPOB/ESN members linked to IED production.
Lagos, Plateau, FCT: Arrests of armed robbers, kidnappers, drug peddlers and other criminal elements, with recoveries of firearms, ammunition and illicit substances.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to securing communities and creating safer conditions to enhance agricultural productivity in support of the Federal Government’s food security agenda.
