In a spirited celebration of comradeship and athleticism, the Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy commemorated its 69th anniversary with a high-energy Inter-Agency Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, 28 May 2025. The event took place at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY Volleyball Court in Calabar and drew participation from elite teams representing the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and Nigerian Police Force.
The tournament, aimed at fostering inter-agency unity and promoting physical excellence, showcased remarkable sportsmanship and competitive zeal among the participating security agencies.
Distinguished officers graced the occasion, including the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral D.M. Ndanusa (representing the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command), the Commander Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral K.O. Oguntuga, the Commander NNS VICTORY, and other senior military officials.
In his keynote address, Rear Admiral Ndanusa highlighted the significance of synergy in national security operations. He stressed that the strength of the nation’s defense lies not only in individual agency capabilities but also in collaboration and teamwork. A principle equally evident on the volleyball court.
The competition kicked off with an opening serve by Rear Admiral Ndanusa, setting the tone for an exhilarating series of matches. After a gripping contest, the Eastern Naval Command team clinched the championship title. The Nigeria Police Force team secured second place, followed by the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Army teams in third and fourth positions respectively.
The tournament concluded with a celebratory award ceremony, including medal presentations, trophy handover, and group photographs, capping off a memorable event that reinforced the enduring bonds among Nigeria’s security agencies.
