The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over 45 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 1,575kg, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command. The seizure, carried out on 4 July 2025, followed a swift operation by NNS BEECROFT’s Quick Response Team acting on credible intelligence.
The narcotics were discovered in two wooden boats suspected of transporting illicit substances around the Takwa Bay and Ilesha axis. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to curb illegal maritime activities, particularly the trafficking of narcotics and contraband through Nigeria’s waterways.
Representing the Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore PP Nimmyel, the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, reiterated the Navy’s commitment to working with other security agencies to protect the maritime domain. The seized items were formally handed over to Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Morrison Udo, for further investigation and action.
