The Nigerian Army has further strengthened its’ leadership ranks with the decoration of its spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, who has been promoted to the rank of Colonel at a ceremony held at Army Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement released by Acting Staff Officer 1, Information/Publicity, Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations, Major Akinola Ajibola, the elevation was performed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, in recognition of Colonel Anele’s exceptional commitment to service, professional excellence and invaluable contributions to the Army’s communication architecture.
The COAS, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, emphasized that public trust remains a cornerstone of effective military operations. He noted that the Directorate of Army Public Relations plays a pivotal role in shaping national perception, reinforcing transparency and projecting the institution’s activities with clarity and responsibility.
He urged the newly decorated Colonel to continue upholding the highest professional standards while nurturing the next generation of public relations officers to ensure the Directorate maintains its expanding operational relevance and strategic impact.
Colonel Anele, in her remarks, expressed deep appreciation for the support and mentorship of senior military leaders, describing the promotion as a motivation to further strengthen the Army’s communication engagements in alignment with national security objectives.
The ceremony drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including former Directors of Army Public Relations, retired senior officers, colleagues, friends and family members who joined in celebrating the landmark achievement.
