The Nigerian Army has confirmed the opening of a formal investigation into a tragic incident involving a 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, which occurred on 1st January 2026, in Ette Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The incident, which has drawn public attention and concern, is currently under official review as the military seeks to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the event.
In a statement released by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, the Army disclosed that the investigation was instituted immediately in line with standard operational procedures. He emphasized that the process remains ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached, urging members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary that could prejudice the integrity of the inquiry.
Captain Muhammad further assured that the findings of the investigation would be made public upon its conclusion, in strict accordance with extant laws and military regulations.
The Army, he noted, remains committed to transparency and due process in addressing matters involving its personnel.
The Nigerian Army also expressed its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel, describing the loss as deeply regrettable. It conveyed prayers for the repose of the young boy’s soul and solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult period.
