In a bold demonstration of its commitment to public health and community development, the Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital (NNRH) Ojo and the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), hosted a free medical outreach for residents of Ajangbadi in Okokomaiko, Lagos.

The event, held as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 69th anniversary, drew hundreds of beneficiaries from the community, who received a range of medical services at no cost. Services included blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, general consultations, distribution of treated mosquito nets, and health education sessions focused on preventive care and wellness.

Representing the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Surgeon Captain VC Igboezue delivered a goodwill message, reaffirming the Navy’s commitment to humanitarian efforts and its ongoing investment in civil-military cooperation.

He said that the medical outreaches go beyond treatment. They are platforms for strengthening trust and partnering with host communities, he stated.

The President of NOWA, represented by the Zonal Coordinator of the WNC Chapter, Mrs. Josephine Oamen, commended the synergy between Naval institutions and stakeholders in delivering impactful healthcare to underserved populations. She reiterated NOWA’s continued dedication to social welfare and family centered initiatives.

Earlier, Surgeon Captain UO Nzeribe-Abangwu, Commander of NNRH Ojo, had welcomed attendees and outlined the comprehensive nature of the services provided. According to her, the outreach offered diagnosis, treatment, referrals, and counseling, all administered by skilled naval medical professionals.

Community leader and Baale of Ajangbadi, Chief Wahab Hassan, expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the residents. He described the intervention as “timely and life-changing,” noting that it addressed persistent health challenges faced by many in the area.

This medical outreach underscores the Nigerian Navy’s broader role in national development—extending its influence beyond maritime defense to include health, humanitarian service, and community empowerment.
