The Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS), Ikot Ntuen, under the leadership of Commandant Captain O.B. Oko, hosted its 2025 Speech and Prize Giving Day on Friday, 15 August 2025, celebrating the remarkable academic and military achievements of its young sailors and dedicated staff.
The occasion was graced by the Chairman of the Institution’s Governing Board and Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral G.S.M. Aligwe, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included the Director of Naval Education, Captain C.O. Dick-Ubi, senior naval officers, academic scholars and notable state dignitaries.
In his keynote address, Rear Admiral Aligwe commended the Commandant and the school’s faculty for their commitment to excellence. He urged the cadets to embrace challenges with resilience, cultivate discipline and pursue their dreams with determination. The event also featured a thought-provoking lecture by Professor Udosen Alice Effong, titled “Determination as a Key to Success in Both Life and Career,” which underscored perseverance as a foundation for personal and professional growth.
The day’s highlights included the presentation of awards to outstanding cadets, officers and civilian staff in recognition of exceptional performance and service. The Parent-Instructor Association (PIA) also honoured Captain O.B. Oko for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the institution’s success. Cultural displays by the cadets and the official launch of the third edition of The Young Sailors Magazine added vibrancy to the celebrations.
The ceremony concluded with group photographs, capturing the pride and sense of accomplishment shared by all in attendance.
