In sustained operations to clear the waterways of all forms of criminality, personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH (NNS SOROH) led by the Commander NNS SOROH, Commodore Olushina Ojebode, under the Central Naval Command on the 15th of July 2023, during a water patrol into Gbaram Community of Agbadam-Foropa, made contact with six armed men in a speedboat, who attempted to attack own troops. In the fire fight that ensued, troops overpowered the armed men with superior firepower, causing them to flee in disarray.
Arms and ammunition in the possession of the armed men were recovered during the operations. Items captured include 2 AK-47 rifles, 6 AK-47 magazines, 133 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one small tecno phone, amongst others.
In another development, same troops during an anti crude oil theft operation at Southern Ijaw discovered a wooden boat laden with illegal crude oil products. Accordingly, the boat was deactivated in line with extant regulation and standard operating procedure.
The Commander, Commodore Ojebode, commended the troops for their gallantry, assured Bayelsans and by extension Nigerians of a renewed effort by the Nigerian Navy under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukuwu Ogalla to provide adequate security within Nigeria’s maritime domain. The troops, not swayed by this success, are determined to ensure that no element of crime is left within the nation’s waterways.
