Kwara: Nigeria’s Agriculture Research Sector loses $100 million Annually.
The Executive Director of the Agriculture and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) Ilorin, Dr Olufemi Oladunni has raised alarm that Nigeria as a nation loses at least one hundred million dollars annually due to inability to attract grants from local and foreign grant-issuing organizations.
Oladunni disclosed this while speaking at the opening of a weeklong training workshop on grantsmanship for agricultural research officers across the country.
The ARMTI boss, Dr Olufemi Oladunni noted that the institute deemed it necessary to contribute its own quota into developing skills, knowledge and research competence of the nation’s scientists by training 50 agricultural research officers drawn from across various institutions in Nigeria.
Oladunni and other speakers also noted that there is need to improve on the quantity of food produced in the country to increase supply, alleviate poverty and increase employment within the system.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Dr. Ishaku Leo from Vom, Plateau state, said they would collaborate through networking among themselves to spread the knowledge garnered during the programme towards making the training worthwhile.
