The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft has handed over four bags of seized cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command, marking another decisive step in the nation’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking. The handover, conducted on Monday, December 1st, 2025, followed a successful operation by the Navy’s Quick Response Team, which intercepted the illicit consignment around the Ijegun Waterside axis on November 24th after acting on credible intelligence.

In his response, the Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore P.P. Nimmyel, ably represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, highlighted that the interception reflects the Navy’s intensified operations under the leadership of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas. He noted that the service continues to pursue targeted actions aimed at disrupting the movement of narcotics and contraband along Nigeria’s coastal routes, a mission central to safeguarding maritime security and public safety.

The operation, described as swift and precise, underscores the vigilance and professionalism of naval personnel who remain on constant alert to counter emerging threats across the maritime domain. The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with sister security agencies, emphasizing that such partnerships are essential to protecting national waters, curbing criminal networks and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The seized 172kg consignment was formally transferred to Deputy Commander of Narcotics (DCN) Morrison Udo, representing the NDLEA, for further investigation and appropriate action. The Navy encouraged members of the public to share timely and credible information with security agencies, noting that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining security across the state.
