In the 2023 elections, individuals from the North do not require candidates from the South, according to PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku made this statement in response to a query from Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, spokesman for the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, during an interactive session with the Arewa Joint Committee that took place on Saturday in Kaduna State.
He claims that because he is a Pan-Nigerian with northern ancestry, Northerners should support him over a Yoruba or Igbo candidate.

Atiku’s response to Baba-question Ahmed’s about why Northerners should support him was, “What the typical Northerner needs is somebody who’s from the north, who’s also familiar with that part of the country, and who has been able to develop bridges throughout the country.
“I stand before you as a Pan-Nigerian of northern heritage. I am the candidate the Northerner needs. It does not require a Yoruba or an Igbo candidate.”
