The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles using illegal number plates, misusing dealer or temporary plates and operating with unauthorised sirens and amber lights, as part of a broader effort to curb crime and enhance public safety across the state. The operation targets vehicles bearing fake, altered, covered, invalid or improperly affixed plates, which police say are often exploited to facilitate criminal activities and pose serious risks to road users.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the initiative is intelligence-led and based on credible information linking such violations to crime. Offenders identified during the operation are being arrested and prosecuted in line with extant laws, while the enforcement is designed to proactively disrupt criminal activity and promote safer road use across Ogun State.
To ensure professionalism and accountability, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit and X-Squad have been deployed for operational oversight, with Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers supervising activities within their jurisdictions.
