Residents of Koju Foam Community, which is on the Osogbo-Ikirun road, say the problem has been going on for a year and a half, even though it was reported that they were upset about the construction of the road because it was making flooding so bad that they couldn’t even imagine it.
Also, in July 2022, people in the area protested the state government for not doing anything to fix the flooding caused by the Osogbo-Ikirun road project, even though they had asked many times.
In a new argument, they maintain that the problem continues as a result of mistakes made by the contractor in charge of the Osogbo-Ikirun road.
The Osun State Government is aware of their situation, according to Alade Ogundare, the chairman of the landlord association and other community leaders who made this revelation in May 2021.

They claim that Oluremi Omowaiye, the commissioner for works, and his team visited the neighborhood in February 2021 and made a commitment to the community that the state government will assist them as quickly as possible, especially given that the rainy season was about to start.
They explained that nothing had been done three months following the Commissioner’s visit.
Taiwo Olusesi, a local, said that dealing with how bad the floods were in their area had been a nightmare.
She said, “When this occurs, it causes sadness for us inhabitants. The idea to build the road was a sound one, but the drainage portion of the project was poorly carried out.
“The roadwork has made our position worse. Our neighborhood is in a lowland area. Because there are no suitable drains, the water from the road runs down when it rains and seeks to store up in our community, causing the flood. This means that it is located lower than the road.
Kehinde Oluwadamilare asked the state government to step in and fix the situation so that lives and property would not be lost. He stated, “The state government had started working on many community projects around the state. Koju Foam Community should also be included on the list. We urgently require government action. Although we have made our own efforts, this is bigger than us. We lack the financial resources to deal with this flood. Only the states have that power.
“All we can do is palliative care, but what can a community do to stop this from happening? We told ourselves ahead of time not to do anything that would hurt the environment or cause flooding, and we found that we didn’t get into any trouble anywhere.
Residents of the town complained that despite repeated requests for the state government to address the floods caused by the Osogbo-Ikirun road project, nothing had been done. In July 2022, the Commissioner for Works, Oluremi Omowaiye, did not react to queries.
