Two foundations, Stop the Abuse Against Women and Children Foundation and Tonia Bruised But Not Broken Foundation, have condemned the alleged molestation of women and girls during a festival in Ozoro, Delta State. They describe the incident as part of a broader societal problem where harmful cultural practices endanger women and girls.
The foundations criticize the normalization of such practices, saying cultural preservation must not come at the expense of safety and dignity. They question the existence of a festival that excludes women from public spaces, calling it discriminatory and unconstitutional.
The organizations demand a full investigation, prosecution of perpetrators, protection for survivors, and reform of harmful cultural practices. They urge the Delta State Government and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively, emphasizing that justice must be seen to be done.
The foundations affirm their commitment to ensuring no woman or child suffers in silence, saying the safety and dignity of women and girls must be non-negotiable.
