The local government election in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) held on Saturday was peaceful, despite a delay in the morning..
Mr Abiodun Abass, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship aspirant for the Ward F, attributed the delay to the late arrival of LASIEC officials.
Abass told journalists after casting his vote at Polling Unit 001, Ward F at Oremeta Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos.
Virtually all the polling units visited at Ward F, Polling Units 001,002, 003, 051, 029, 094, 052, 059, 004, 012, 013, 074 ,039, 114, in Ojodu LCDA, started the election process late due to the late arrival of voting materials.
Abass said, “So far, everything is fine, but initially there was a little delay due to the late arrival of voting materials.
“The LASIEC officials did not arrive on time.”
He, however noted that despite the delay, the electorate waited to cast their vote.
The aspirant commended the community members for turning out early to cast their votes.
According to him, Most of the community people already came out as early as 6:00 a.m just because of the love they have for our party.
Abass described the exercise as very peaceful and encouraging praising the electorate for their decorum.
The APC aspirant expressed confidence of victory, attributing it to the party’s track record of development in the community.
“As a ruling party, our party has done a lot for the community. There is no saying that we are still continuing in the government.
I am 100 per cent sure of victory because what my party is doing, hence, the people, the community, want continuity in this administration.
Abass highlighted the benefits of the new policy of local government autonomy, saying it would enable the council to do more with direct allocation from the federal government.
“With the new policy of the Local Government becoming autonomous, it’s going to give room for better development at the grassroot.
“Getting direct allocation will give us more accessibility to add more to our project,” he said
If elected , Abass assured the community of more development initiatives, including improvements in healthcare, education, youth development, and social welfare.
He mentioned the introduction of the H-E-Y-S (Health, Education, Youth, and Social Development) initiative, which had touched every sector.
It was observed that the election process began at 1:30 p.m, with accreditation and voting holding simultaneously.
