Abuja will come alive on Saturday, the 11th of October 2025, as the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), an initiative of the Nigeria Police Force, will host a landmark celebration to mark the International Day of the Girl Child at the Nigeria Police Resource Center, Jabi.
The 2025 edition, themed “Girls’ Vision for the Future” and driven with the sub-theme “My Identity, My Power: Creating Safer Spaces for the Nigerian Girl Child,” is expected to draw over 500 secondary school girls from across the Federal Capital Territory for a day of empowerment, mentorship and creative engagement.
According to the POCACOV National Coordinator, ACP Olabisi Okuwobi, the celebration will focus on equipping girls with knowledge, confidence and leadership skills as a proactive means of combating societal vices such as cultism, cybercrime, substance abuse and gender-based violence. This, she noted, aligns with the mandate of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun on preventive policing mandate.
The programme promises a rich lineup of activities, including:
Safe-Girl Workshops on leadership, digital skills and civic engagement.
Mentorship and Role-Model Sessions featuring accomplished women leaders in law enforcement, entrepreneurship, education and technology.
Creative Expression Challenge through debates, spoken word, art and drama, spotlighting the theme, My Identity, My Power.
Stakeholder Roundtable on strengthening partnerships to safeguard and empower the Nigerian girl child.
ACP Okuwobi stated that this year’s celebration is not just a one-day event but a call to action, where girls will know their identity and power and use that knowledge to become unstoppable change-makers.
POCACOV has also called on government agencies, the private sector, civil society, schools, parents and community leaders to rally behind the initiative, stressing that a united front is needed to create safer and more supportive spaces for the Nigerian girl-child.
