The gunmen who assaulted a mining site close to the state’s border with Benue are being sought by the police in Ebonyi.
On Saturday, the assailants broke into the building and started shooting at the workers, killing a Chinese guy.
The police officers securing the foreigner were apparently disarmed by the gunmen.
SP Chris Anyanwu, the police department’s public relations officer, provided an update on the incident on Monday.
He claimed that “one of the on-duty policeman got major bullet wounds and is still getting treatment.”

Anyanwu demanded immediate disclosure of reliable information regarding the names and whereabouts of the offenders.
Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Steve Emenike, described the murder as a “national embarrassment”.
Emenike said the gunmen rode on motorcycles to the mining site located at Otam Nwogba village in the LGA.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital.
