Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command have uncovered a major drug trafficking operation in Lagos, seizing hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud valued at ₦7.8 billion. The joint raid, carried out by the Special Protection Unit and divisional detectives, targeted an apartment in a Mende, Maryland estate where several suspects were arrested, including alleged kingpin Eke Henry Ifeanyi, 41.
The operation followed months of surveillance on the suspect before his arrest on 19 May. According to AIG Olohundare Jimoh, the suspect attempted to bribe the SPU commander with ₦500 million to halt the raid and move the consignment. The offer was rejected and documented for further investigation. AIG Jimoh said the success reflects the impact of embedding specialized units in joint operations under IGP Olatunji Disu’s grassroots policing strategy, which focuses on rapid containment, intelligence-led action, and professional conduct.
IGP Disu described the outcome as validation of the ongoing redeployment of personnel to divisions across Lagos and Ogun. He praised the SPU commander’s refusal of the bribe and adherence to procedure, saying it demonstrates how placing capable officers at the grassroots restores public trust. Recovered exhibits have been documented and will be tendered in court, while investigations continue to identify other members of the network.
