The Police Veterans Foundation (PVF) has announced a ₦2.5 million special death benefit to the family of the late Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Ehigiator Arase, in recognition of his pioneering role in advancing the welfare of retired police officers.
The decision was reached at an emergency meeting of the expanded Board of Trustees of the PVF, held on Wednesday at the NARPON Mess, Jabi, Abuja, and chaired by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Yesufu, mni.
Members recalled that Arase, a former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, was instrumental in the formation of the Retired Police Officers Consultative Forum, which later gave birth to the PVF. He also mobilised significant support and resources for the foundation at its official launch in March 2024.
In view of his exceptional contributions, the meeting resolved to exceed the usual entitlement and approved the ₦2.5m benefit as a mark of honour.
The PVF further resolved to place a tribute advert in a national newspaper, with financial implications not exceeding ₦1m, and to sponsor a three-member delegation to Edo State to represent the foundation at Arase’s burial.
Following the meeting, the trustees proceeded to the Maitama residence of the late IGP, where they presented his widow with a cheque for ₦2.5m and a two-page condolence letter signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the foundation.
Arase, who passed away recently, was remembered at the meeting with a minute’s silence in his honour. He was described by the PVF as the “founder and patron” of the organisation whose legacy of selfless service will endure among police veterans nationwide.
