Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called on Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to foster empathy, strengthen community ties, and contribute to nation-building.
Speaking at the Special Firdaus Prayer for the Late Oba, Mufutau Hamzat, and Ramadan Lecture in Lagos, Hamzat emphasized that Ramadan is an opportunity to strengthen community relationships and promote social welfare.
“The month of Ramadan is special. It’s a time to enhance our creation, worship Almighty God, and deal with humanity better,” he said. “If you live well with people, take care of your neighbor, and take care of your community, the nation will be better.”
Hamzat cited Prophet Muhammad’s teachings, stressing the importance of living in peace and unity with neighbors. He added that both Muslims and Christians should live up to the expectations of their faith, promoting peace, love, empathy, and good deeds.
“Our religion teaches us to be good neighbors, take care of ourselves, our community, and the environment,” he said. “Let’s live up to it and build a better community and a prosperous nation.”
