President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged by the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) to enact a reduction or elimination of import taxes on solar panels and other components of renewable energy.
This was stated in a communiqué from REAN, with assistance from the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (HBS), following a recent two-day conference in Lagos on consumer financing for renewable energy under the title “Renewable Energy – Future is Here.”
It stated that the government should support the private sector with the appropriate policies and coordination in order for the renewable energy sector to flourish efficiently and effectively and for everyone to have quick access to electricity.

“The federal government through its relevant MDAs should implement policies to catalyse the production and assembling of renewable energy components in Nigeria. Local manufacturing and assembling companies need to be incentivised to increase their production and manpower capacity for scaling up,” the communiqué read in part.
