… Restates commitment to creating a Greater Lagos where every citizen thrivesÂ
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has affirmed that his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to initiatives that promote inclusivity, economic empowerment, and poverty alleviation within the state.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, today at the Year 2024 Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) Program, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), at the De Blue Roof, Agidingbi-Ikeja, said his administration determined to build a Lagos where everyone has a fair chance to succeed and thrive.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the year 2024 micro-enterprise support initiative is another testament to his administration’s unwavering commitment to creating a Greater Lagos where every citizen can thrive and contribute meaningfully to its collective progress, adding that the overwhelming success of the first edition made it an easy decision to approve the second phase within the same year. “The initiative speaks volumes about the government’s commitment to creating opportunities, reducing poverty, and nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the people,” he said.
Speaking further, the Governor reiterated that the MESI Program goes beyond financial support, emphasizing that the initiative is about building a foundation for self-reliance, boosting economic growth, and unleashing the potential of women. He added that it ensures that every woman, regardless of her background or circumstances, has access to the tools and resources needed to transform her life, her community, and Lagos State at large.
Besides, Sanwo-Olu underscored that through skill acquisition, capacity building, and financial empowerment, his government is creating a future where poverty becomes history, and prosperity becomes a reality.
While addressing the beneficiaries, the Governor noted that the beneficiaries are an integral part of his administration’s vision and therefore admonished them to seize the opportunity with both hands, use the available resources wisely to grow their businesses, improve their livelihood, and inspire others in their communities, “Remember, this program is a stepping stone to even greater achievements, and your success contributes to the larger success of Lagos State,” he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada urged the beneficiaries of the tools and equipment to seize the moment, embrace the opportunities laid before them, and work tirelessly towards achieving their entrepreneurial dreams.
While highlighting the different tools and equipment being distributed to the beneficiaries as empowerment, Dada noted that the tools were carefully chosen to meet the diverse needs of entrepreneurs. The chosen tools include; Stoning Machines, Pepper Grinders, Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers, Barbing Kits (including clippers, sterilizers, and generators), Standing Facial Steamers, Aluminum Cutting Machines, Two-Phase Burners (including 30-inch cooking pots and 12.5kg cylinders), Cake Mixers, Welding Machines, Agricultural Items (fertilizers, knapsacks, and seeds) and Cash Grants.
