Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, officially launched the MyLagos App, a smartphone application designed to simplify city navigation and enrich urban experience by connecting people with the vibrant offerings of Lagos.
The development of the application is a collaboration between MTN, the Lagos State Government, and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the launch held at the MTN Plaza, Falomo-Lagos, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu described the launch as a momentous occasion that marks a significant milestone in his administration’s journey to transform Lagos into a leading smart city in Africa.
The Governor who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat stressed that technology has evolved from being a luxury to a necessity around the globe and effective utilization of technology can significantly enhance governance, improve service delivery, simplify, and enrich the lives of every resident within the vibrant state.
His words, “Let us remember that innovation is a continuous journey rather than a final destination. While today’s launch is an important step forward, there is much more work ahead. With the ongoing improvement, community involvement, and a shared vision for progress, we will ensure that Lagos remains at the forefront of digital transformation—not just in Nigeria but across Africa.”
Speaking further, Sanwo-Olu stressed that in a dynamic metropolis like Lagos, access to timely and accurate information is critical, as the App is set to revolutionize how the government connects with its city, enhance connectivity, efficiency, and accessibility for both residents and visitors in Lagos, adding that the application serves as a vital link between the government and its citizens as it will simplify access to public services, provide real-time updates, and promote transparency and accountability.
He noted that whether Lagosians are seeking important city news or navigating government processes, the MyLagos App places all essential information right at their fingertips.
“MyLagos App is a comprehensive digital platform designed to provide seamless access to essential city services, ranging from real-time traffic updates and personalized navigation to emergency services including hospitals, fire departments, utility payments, business listings, and tourism information. This app consolidates everything Lagosians need into one user-friendly platform.” the Governor said.
In his address, Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria Karl Toriola said the application is a one-stop center for information, services, entertainment, hospitality, and e-government, accommodation, library, water transformation among others within the State.
Toriola added that the application will provide a transformative solution to support individuals and residents of Lagos State to go about their daily lives. “So this is the launch event, but I charge everyone here, particularly the commercial and marketing teams, to drive the awareness of this app across the whole of Lagos and to onboard as many solutions, content providers, and services providers onto this, and to work with Lagos State to drive e-government payment of anything from your land use charge to whatever it might be through this,” he said.
Earlier in his presentation, Manager, Digital Customer Service, (Vas & Financial Services) Abdulhakeem Giwa, stated that the development of the app came from the need for Lagosians to have access to more customers, commuters need to move around the state seamlessly and need to pay for services seamlessly, adding that a lot of businesses in Lagos need visibility.
“We have a series of engagements to ensure that this app truly, truly meets the needs of the people that stay in Lagos, be it residents, be it first-timers, be it anyone that wants to strive in Lagos. Every line of this code that was developed in this app, every design, every color, every font, was designed with negotiations of people who live in Lagos at heart. This isn’t just an app about technology, it’s an app about making life in Lagos easier, better, and of course, more exciting,” he concluded.
