Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has stressed the importance of database and measurable outcomes in managing both governance and party structures.
The Governor stated this today at the Flag-Off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) E-Registration Hands-on Device/Application themed “TRAIN-THE-TRAINER” for SouthWest Zone, held at Lagos House, Marina.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, underscored the significance of accurate data collection and management in sustaining effective governance and party organization, citing that whatever cannot be measured cannot be managed.
Sanwo-Olu was of the opinion that for APC to move forward, the party must build a reliable membership database to strengthen internal communication, improve engagement, and enhance electoral readiness. “As a political party, we must also measure our members. That’s the only way we can manage effectively. We must know who our members are, where they are, and how they feel about governance. It shouldn’t only be during elections that we start running around,” he said.
He stressed the importance of two-way communication between the government and the electorate, noting that with accurate data, the party can better understand the needs and sentiments of its members and the general public.
He reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government is committed to effective data management, transparency, and people-centred governance, urging participants of the programme to strengthen the systems, noting that that is how the party will continue to win.
While commending President Bola Tinubu for implementing tasking but necessary reforms, particularly in the petroleum and financial/economic sectors, the Governor said the reforms are now yielding positive results and citizens are now seeing the benefitting results.
He therefore urged members of the APC to continue to support and defend the policies of the current administration, assuring that the reforms being implemented will yield long-term benefits for Nigerians.
In his remarks, National Secretary, All Progressives Congress, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, described the programme as a vital step towards institutionalizing accuracy, transparency, and structure in party administration, emphasizing that a political party must maintain an authentic and verifiable membership database to ensure credibility and effective participation in democratic processes.
Sen. Basiru said, “The programme signified that a political party is not just a consortium, it’s a membership-based organisation, and as a membership-based organisation, it must be able to have an accurate database and the demographic spread of its membership. Our party remains focused on strengthening its structures nationwide and positioning itself as a model of progressive governance through verifiable data, innovation, and inclusiveness.”
He further noted that the E-Registration programme, which marks the conclusion of the zonal training series, underscores the APC’s commitment to capacity building and political education, urging participants to take the training seriously, as it will equip them with the tools needed to mobilize, organize, and sensitize members across the region.
In his welcome address, Chairman, Lagos State All Progressive Congress (APC), Pastor. Cornelius Ojelabi noted that the programme is going to further deepen the country’s democracy, through accurate record keeping and data-driven policies that will place the party in a leadership position.
“This programme is also an avenue to show everyone that we are very organised and capable people who believe in doing things rightly and meeting the needs of our people. Through this programme, we have scored another first as a party of progressives. With this e-registration exercise, our party is again teaching other contractions that we teach other political parties how to run a true people-friendly political party,” Ojelabi said.
He added that for any political party to continue to be relevant in today’s democratic world, it must continually develop technology and modernise its operations, as the APC party is currently doing, stressing that accurate record-keeping and data management are key components of contemporary party administrations, as members can start businesses more virtually now because of more access to the Internet.
