Amnesty International has strongly condemned the invasion of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) office by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration for “going too far” in its attempts to silence dissenting voices.
SERAP, in a post on X on Monday, raised the alarm that officers from the Department of State Services had taken over its Abuja office.
“Officers from Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s office in Abuja, asking to see our directors.
“President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians.”
In a statement issued on Monday, Amnesty International voiced concern over the “unlawful” takeover of SERAP’s Abuja office by DSS agents.
The post read, “Amnesty International received a disturbing report of the unlawful invasion of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project by operatives of the DSS. President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to silence dissenting voices.”
