In a boat accident that happened in the Gbara neighborhood of Mokwa LGA (River Kaduna), in the Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, at least six people are reportedly dead and six more are still unaccounted for.
According to information, the event happened yesterday evening at about 6:30.
According to reports, the boat left Lanchikagi village in Lavun LG and was traveling to Gbara village with 48 people on board.
Six people lost their lives in the disaster, which was confirmed by the Niger State Management Agency, NSEMA, in a statement signed by its director general, Ibrahim Inga. The boat was carrying 48 people at the time.
He added that in the catastrophe that happened last evening, 37 people made it out alive, six dead corpses were found, and five are still missing.

He claimed that the travelers were allegedly going home after attending the weekly Friday market in the Lavun local government’s Danchitagi village.
Inga claimed that a torrential downpour and a strong windstorm were to blame for the tragedy.
The NSEMA DG continued by saying that search and rescue efforts are still being made for the remaining missing people.
